Truck Liability insurance
Primary Liability - Every trucker and trucking company who operates under their own authority is required to carry primary liability coverage on all owned units and usually provide this insurance for their leased vehicles. This protects you from the costs associated with property damage or injuries to other people as a result of truck accidents. This coverage is mandated by the State and Federal agencies and a form of proof is required to be sent to them. This is usually the most expensive part of any trucking company's insurance package
Non-Trucking Liability insurance
Non Trucking Liability - Also referred to as "Bobtail" insurance though this is not a correct term. This provides liability coverage when the truck is being used for purposes outside the scope of the lease and not under dispatch. EXAMPLE: using the truck on weekends to run errands.
Physical Damage insurance
Physical Damage - This insurance is coverage for your truck and trailer. This coverage is for repair or replacement for damage resulting from things such as collision, fire, theft, hail, windstorm, earthquake, flood, mischief, or vandalism to your owned vehicles. Your premium is based on the value of your equipment and usually pays a percentage of that value.
This coverage is not required by law but if you finance your vehicle the lien holder will require it. It is important to insure your vehicle for the real value. Do not over or under value the vehicle as the insurance company will only pay market value at the time of the loss.
General Liability Insurance
General Liability is very broad coverage that provides protection against costs arising from non "on the road" risks. Some of the most common types of risk this coverage is intended for are injuries or property damage sustained while on your premises, using your products or services, or a breach of contract.
Motor Truck Cargo Insurance
Cargo provides coverage for loss or damage to the property your truck is transporting (the load). You, the transporter of freight and commodities is responsible for the cargo you have under your control. The amount of that responsibility is established between the shipper and the transporter by contract, bill of lading disclosure, or published tariffs before the shipment is moved.
Workers Compensation Insurance
If you employ workers, then it is required by the Government that you maintain a workers compensation policy in force for your employees. This insurance protects you against your liability to your workers for their injuries sustained while on the job. This insurance policy actually protects the employee and his/her ability to create future earnings to support themselves and their family.
Bonds
Bonds for fuel taxes and motor carrier authority are frequently required by trucking firms. H. K. Smith & Associates can place all of your bond needs quickly and efficiently.
Hazardous Materials insurance
Coverage for those haulers who carry the most heavily regulated loads of dangerous or toxic cargo. This highly specialized coverage is available in most states through two of our preferred carriers. It includes, physical damage, liability. General liability and cargo protection.
Occupational Accident insurance
This product is designed specifically for owner operators in the trucking industry. In most states, by being self- employed, owner operators can opt out of state mandated workers compensation coverage. While not the same as workers compensation, this coverage is similar in scope. Most motor carriers require their leased operators to be covered either by workers compensation or occupational/accident at the leased operators expense.
